✑ In-class work: Clay and object exercise
For The King of Greed
Taking the everyday objects -- one dollar coin and a golden ring as the materials for this exercise.
I tried to think about the similarity and differences between these two object in order to combine them together by clay. The ring is in golden and shiny, which makes me associate to the gold and expensive things. Expensive things make me link to money so I used the dollar coin to symbolize money and price.
Finally, I came up with the idea of a golden money ring which is for the people who love money a lot. Using the dollar coin as the upper surface, it is linked with the golden ring by using clay in rose shape. Rose is beautiful but has sticky thorns, which means the danger behind the beauty. Therefore, I want to convey a message that though the money ring (representing wealth) looks attractive and many people want it, it can be very dangerous when people wear it as some thorns (bad influences) are made on the ring. People need to sacrifice something to achieve the wealth. Sometimes, it can make people more greed and lose their mind.
Though it is a bit pity that I forgot to bring more objects for the lesson, this is a good chance to think out of the box and create things with a limitation. Sometimes, the limitation may lead to an unexpected idea too!

✑ Reflection on the lesson:
I really find the idea of isolating an object from its normal way really fascinating. The artworks shown shocked me and I like how we should think and find the actual meaning in a different way. I will try to make arts with surrealistic style next time and do more weird works to inspire others.
